A family wanted a room where the children could watch films and play games, that also worked as a relaxed place for everyone to spend time together. It had to feel like a real cinema, built on a sensible budget, in a space that started life as an outdoor terrace.
Turning an open terrace into a cinema meant solving the room before the equipment. The space had to be enclosed and insulated so sound stayed in and daylight stayed out, which is where the blackout acoustic panels and heavy curtains came in.
The family also needed it to be practical. The dual-level floor had to be safe for children, and the lighting had to work for both a film and a play session. Every choice was made to deliver real cinema performance without the usual cost.
The finishing touch was automation. Tunable and RGB lighting and motorised curtains run on Zigbee, set up so the AV system and the room respond together: one scene for movie night, another for when the screen is off.
